# Creating flows

> Export an app editor project as a flow, or create a flow project from scratch.

Enterprise Single-tenant

Learn about the two ways to create a flow:

* [Starting in the app editor](/automate/creating), you can generate a schema, define classes, and then [export the project](/automate/projects#exporting-and-importing-projects) to the flow editor.

* Working exclusively in the flow editor, you can create a flow from scratch.

## Exporting projects from the app editor to the flow editor

In some cases, you might want to start the app building process in the app editor to take advantage of the low-code interface, then move it into the flow editor to configure more advanced options. For example, defining your schema and classes in the app editor before adding complex orchestration in the flow editor.

> **Note**
>
> Migrating a project from the app editor to the flow editor is a one-way operation. Flows can't be brought back into the app editor.

1. In the project header, click the dropdown indicator next to the project name. Select **Export project** > **Export as .ibflow**.

2. Name the flow and export.

3. Review the generated canvas, then edit or add steps for advanced orchestration and custom scripting.

## Starting a flow in the flow editor

Create an advanced app project from scratch:

1. Switch to advanced view from the profile menu.

2. Open your developer workspace, then open the Flow app and create a new flow.

3. Choose a repository location, create the project, and start with a *Process files* step on the canvas.
