Research mode is an optional chat setting that uses a more powerful AI model, providing better responses for complex queries.

The Research mode toggle is beneath the Query your files box.

User interface control for toggling research mode

Research mode has two disadvantages:

  • Slower replies
  • More consumption units used per reply

AI Hub’s pricing page has more information on how research mode affects consumption unit usage.

When to use research mode

Say you have a chat with documents that describe the technical specifications of the Airbus A330 and A350 airplane families.

These sample prompts require complex reasoning, so might give better replies with research mode enabled.

  • Compare and contrast the fuel efficiency of the A330 and A350 across different flight profiles, considering factors like cruise altitude, speed, and payload. Provide specific numerical comparisons where possible.

  • Analyze the maintenance requirements for both aircraft families over a 20-year lifecycle. How do they differ in terms of scheduled maintenance intervals, component lifespans, and overall maintenance costs?

  • Evaluate the avionics systems in both aircraft families. How do they differ in terms of pilot workload reduction, situational awareness enhancement, and overall flight deck integration?
